Puppy Development & Positive Reinforcement Training

Hi, I'm Lisa. I'm a Canine Behaviour Consultant and a Nationally Accredited dog trainer based in Stanthorpe on the Southern Downs, QLD. I specialise in Puppy Development and Positive Reinforcement Training to build strong foundations thereby setting dogs up for a lifetime of confidence, stability communication skills, and emotional resilience.

My training approach is science based and force free, using positive reinforcement in the form of rewards, to teach dogs and puppies desirable behaviours whilst avoiding the use of punishment, intimidation, and fear.

My approach focuses not only on supporting and educating owners to teach behaviours, but on understanding each dog as an individual and creating positive, lasting associations with the world around them and their handlers.

POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

Positive reinforcement training aims to breakdown behaviours into smaller pieces to help dogs & their owners learn and succeed step by step.

POSITIVE RESULTS

This encourages dogs to think more for themselves, to develop their self-control, trust, & confidence, and to make good choices.

Understanding, Motivating, and Building Connection

As a Positive Reinforcement trainer, my goal is to:

  • Read Your Dog’s Body Language:
Observing your dog’s physical cues and responses to gauge their emotional state and comfort levels.
  • Identify Learning Style:
Recognizing what motivates and satisfies your dog to tailor training methods to suit how your dog learns best.
  • Enhance Relationships:
Working together to strengthen the bond between you, your family, and your dog, creating a joyful and fulfilling connection.

Private Training

Conducted in the familiar environment of your home/yard to minimise distraction and maximise learning.

Creating positive members of the
Canine Community

The Courteous Canine is a certification program designed to evaluate dogs and their handlers in simulated everyday situations in public places. It assesses handling, behaviour, training, and demeanour in a relaxed public environment.

The goal is to identify and reward dogs who exhibit the qualities necessary to be reliable family members and stable community members who demonstrate good manners in a public space.

Benefits of achieving a
Courteous Canine Certification

  • Cooperates effectively:
Allows dogs to interact well with others, including vets and groomers.
  • skill development:
Lays the foundation for specialized training (e.g. therapy dog certification).
  • Fortifies partnership:
Strengthens the dog’s bond with their handlers by becoming polite and respectful community members.
  • Boosts abilities and respect:
Improves handler’s skills and consideration towards other dog owners and the public.

Achieving certification indicates that a dog is well-behaved, trained, and socially adept and that the handler recognises the responsibilities of taking a dog out in public.

Courteous Canine classes are conducted at the Stanthorpe Railway Station precinct on Saturday afternoons - for applications to enrol, please use contact form or email lisa@setforsuccess.au.

    Olivia and Panda

  • We really enjoyed our training session with Lisa. She helped us massively with our 10 month old Border Collie and how we can start to train him to heel and stop pulling on the lead when approaching other dogs.

    Scott, Liana and Teddy

  • I highly recommend Lisa. I have an anxious and reactive dog and not only has she given me achievable and manageable tasks to do with my dog, I also feel more at ease and confident within myself too.
